It is the prerequisite for COMP 1516, COMP 1630, COMP 1850, and COMP 2010. COMP 1002 is a required course for Computer Systems Certificate (CSC) and several Associate Certificates. Participants must provide their own current PC device (Windows, Mac, or Linux, or some Chromebooks). Attendance, participation in class and the BCIT Learning Hub are mandatory, plus there is significant homework. There will be a brief comparison to Windows 10, Linux and MacOS, including practise with a Linux distribution. Hands-on exercises and labs include applied experience with all aspects of the course. Networking, user management and Windows 11 configuration are also discussed. Topics include: An introduction to PC hardware, functions of an operating system (OS), file and disk management, backing up and protecting data, troubleshooting, security, privacy, malware and firewalls. Exercises reinforce best practices to use and manage a Microsoft Windows 11 PC, Students are provided with remote access to a virtual Windows 11 lab computer. COMP 1002 focuses on how a Personal Computer (PC) system works. This hands-on course or equivalent knowledge is assumed for all follow-on COMP courses in BCIT Computing Flexible Learning programs. Job opportunities depend on the student’s chosen electives, previous level of education and applicable work experience. The associate certificate program courses are taught at a level that assumes students have completed senior secondary school math, science and English or equivalent. individuals who require a formalization of their technical abilities in CAD.draftspersons, technicians or individuals who are skilled in a technical field who need to develop their CAD proficiency.
The Associate Certificate program is intended for: To be awarded an Associate Certificate in Computer Aided Design Technology, the student must complete 6.0 credits of required courses and 12.0 credits of elective courses for a total of 18.0 credits. As well, CAD is finding applications in other areas such as facilities management and interior design.
